I Wonder
What do you wonder about?
I wake, six feet under,
Hear the crack of distant thunder
And I wonder—
What the feck am I doing here?
In this life,
Who approved this?
Who is WHO, and WHAT am I?
I cry, staring at a lit-up screen—
Know what I mean?
A digital dream,
Where THEY sit smug,
Money flowing—
Invisibly, from one account to another,
Without love,
No touch, no traction—
Where’s the reaction?
I cannot wake from this.
Today, I heard my mother,
Her lover with dementia—
He forgot her name.
What the feck, is this world insane?
Who’s to blame?
It’s just her name!
But is there another?
For EVERYTHING,
ONE name connects,
And never rejects—
One ardor of sense rules:
LOVE is EVERYTHING,
And EVERYTHING IS LOVE!
A truth that bursts me
From slumber,
Hark, the distant thunder
As I wonder—
Will life listen today
To the silence in my heart
As I lay here,
Six feet under?
I wonder.
